Supplement your praise with ongoing support
Praise for a good piece of work is great, but often it’s a one-time event...

To reinforce the good things your employees do, follow up your praise with continued encouragement. For example, let’s say an employee develops a working knowledge of an important topic as part of a specific project. Praise the employee when the project ends, but also urge him or her to stay current on the subject; follow up with questions and suggestions for applying that new knowledge.
